Everyone benefits from an active lifestyle. Michelle Ballasiotes, a young adult stroke thriver, and occupational therapy student grew up with a mix of mainstream and adaptive activities, then found adaptive programs as a young adult that provided fun, fitness, and connections to others. Adaptive sports and activities can be hard to find for many families. Andy Fehlner, DPT, shares his perspective as a father to a stroke thriver and a physical therapist on obstacles and opportunities in the world of adaptive and therapeutic sports and activities.
Michelle Ballasiotes is a pediatric stroke thriver with right hemiplegia and an athlete involved in a variety of adapted sports with her favorite being cycling. She also enjoys swimming, rock climbing, kayaking, pickleball, and hiking. She is obtaining a graduate degree in Occupational Therapy and hopes to motivate her own clients to reach their goals.
