As many of you know, this is the true story of our son Ben Schultz who was an Anchorage, Alaska firefighter/paramedic when, on June 5, 2017, (at age 28) he fell 95 feet down the aerial ladder truck during a training exercise. He suffered a traumatic brain injury (TBI) and was not expected to live through the night. By the grace of God (and an amazing medical and therapy team) he did survive the night but was in a coma for some 2+ months and in recovery for nearly a year as he learned how to once again, talk, eat, walk, drive and more. This is the story of a TBI survivor. Through this video you will see Ben’s one-year miraculous recovery journey condensed into 30 minutes of still and videos as he went through physical, occupational and speech therapies at Craig Hospital in Denver and Quality Living Inc. (QLI) in Omaha. At the end you’ll hear from Ben as he talks about his life, recovery and next life challenges.

We post this video with grateful hearts to God for Ben’s survival. To honor all those in the medical profession and the firefighter community who fought for Ben. And for the hundreds and hundreds of people who supported us through prayer, comments, gifts, food, advice, encouragement, a shoulder to cry on, listening and just being there for us.

Please write your comments below the video to show your support. If you can use assistance or encouragment with a TBI patient, feel free to contact us through: www.SchultzPhoto.com

Philadelphia checking in. I have a cousin who is in an accident two months ago he was in a coma and now he's in a vegetative state. They have him in a rehab facility and this video gives me hope. The first we thought he was a lost soul. So hopefully he makes a full recovery like you. So thank you for this video. And congratulations to getting your life back. 💪❤️

Truth, faith, belief, strength and hard work. God is good all the time, and all the time God is good. He works in such mysterious ways, and he made sure Ben was surrounded by the best people possible so that he could heal slowly but surely. Family, friends, doctors, surgeons, physio's and every one else who was involved with his healing, physically, emotionally and mentally. Through all his trials and tribulations God continued to be a guiding light, be a constant support, and never leaving Bens side. I humbly thank our Heavenly Father for blessing him and healing him abundantly. This is a true testament to God's love for those who have unwavering faith and belief in his words and the gospel. Truly, truly amazing story.😊❤👍

Amy TiH says:

Just amazing! My daughter has asked me if I believe in God or science. My answer is both. I believe in us, an intelligent and ever learning and evolving species, who through education and desire to heal, uplift and change the world, can work to bring great recovery and change but I also believe in a higher power. One who looks over us and has a plan for us all. One who works through others to effect near miracles. I believe in the human spirit and it’s incredible will to beat the odds and of course our amazing bodies which we learn more and more about each day (science! Plasticity of the brain in the role of such an amazing recovery for Ben). Last but not least I believe in the power of love. It’s ability to lift us up and comfort us in our time of need. Family, friends and even a strangers offering of love can move metaphorical mountains.
God bless you Ben, your family and the wonderful staff who know to never give up because there is always hope and possibility. Much love from Ireland 💚

Martillo DeDios says:

Amazing! My son is in the same situation right now…he was in a car accident in July this past summer. Unfortunately covid has taken its toll on hospitals and so its way different now…getting the proper care is almost impossible, I feel like the Dr.'s gave up on my son, that is, I don't believe they tried hard enough. He is at home with us, in a minimally conscious state…we are seeing progress, but it's all on my wife and I to help him in his care. We do have some care givers helping and an occupational therapist helping, but its really hard…

mockingjaye says:

Ben you're amazing and strong. God thank you for all the PT staff that work so hard. Love this story I'm praying my cousin makes a full recovery she's still in coma please prayers for her.

HeavenLee Justice says:

Different but similar Ben's healing reminds me of Lance Armstrong a cancer survivor. Lance Mom only surrounded Lance with those who believe he would be healed. God Bless Ben & his Family as he continues on in this beautiful thing called life. Always with God all things are possible. Peace, HeavenLee HeavenLee Justice

Thank you for this video. It’s inspiring for sure. I’m a firefighter. Hoping to be able to get back on the red truck anyway after my TBI almost 3 months ago. So happy for his progress and to see his determination that is natural for all that do what we do!

Service Dog Colt says:

Ben you are such a blessing to me. God has done a miracle in your life and I believe fully, I also had a TBI and was saved by God. He is a loving God.
