On July 19th, 2005, Candace Gantt was treated at HUP for a serious brain injury after being struck by a car on her bike. In October, she’s racing a 140.6 mile Ironman Triathalon to raise research funds for Penn’s Center for Brain Injury and Repair.

I would suspect that being very well off financially plays a huge role in her recovery as well…less stress about making ends meet = less cortisol. Also includes having the best surgeons, therapists, access to newest technology and research…stuff beyond the reach of the ordinary TBI survivor and family…research into recovery across the economic spectrum would be interesting. Being fit is important, but there are plenty of young athletes who suffer TBI and don't recover without symptoms…
