The Glasgow Coma Scale is an integral part of clinical practice and research across the World. The experience gained since it was first described in 1974 has advanced the assessment of the Scale through the development of a modern structured approach with improved accuracy, reliability, and communication in its use.”

The Scale was described in 1974 by Graham Teasdale and Bryan Jennett (Assessment of coma and impaired consciousness. A practical scale) as a way to communicate about the level of consciousness of patients with an acute brain injury.

The Glasgow coma scale is used to assess patients in a coma. The initial score correlates with the severity of brain injury and prognosis. The Glasgow Coma Scale provides a score in the range 3-15;
