On November 4, 2013, Nick was struck by a hit-and-run driver, while jogging in D.C.'s Chinatown. He sustained severe traumatic brain injury and spent weeks recovering both at MedStar Washington Hospital Center and MedStar National Rehabilitation Hospital.
