Post-Traumatic Headache in Patients After Mild TBI
Dr. Hakan Ashina, a medical doctor and researcher at Harvard Medical School in Boston, MA, and Copenhagen University Hospital in Denmark, reviews his article appearing in the October 2023 issue of Mayo Clinic Proceedings. In this study, Dr. Ashina finds that 60% of all patients with mild traumatic brain injury experience headache two weeks post-injury, and 29% of those patients continue to experience headache up to one year later. These findings highlight the urgent need for closer follow up care and improved treatment approaches to alleviate the burden of chronic headaches in this patient population.
