Subscribers have asked me to post complete documentaries so I have made. This is one. I made this back in the 1980s with a grant from a foundation concerned with Coma and especially with severe brain injuries among young people. I know that it is a rough documentary to watch but it was a necessary one to make. It ran on primetime PBS and those suffering with family members and friends who have severe head injuries, largely caused by drunk driving, appreciated making the public aware of the incredible challenges faced by these people and the people love them. Families have to deal with issues described in this film that are just so difficult and involve life and death. I thank Ala Von Auersberg Isham for making this film possible and for appearing in it.

I suspect that nursing home was using Nancy as a source of revenue…. Essentially, they fought to get her body alive because it was profitable.

I'm a TBI survivor. I'm a lucky one.

But when I was in coma it was all dark and nasty things. Let me just say I didn't see the light……

Miles Cobbett says:

Can Patty Hogan communicate well via hand writing her thoughts? I saw she types her thoughts. By the way I love her cool family and Patty's inner drive.

As a person who survived multiple brain injuries I can feel for Deb when she wants to focus on something without being spoken to or distracted from doing her task.

We kindly euthanize our animals. I will never understand why we don't do the same for humans. How does it make sense for someone to live in a vegetative state?

Calle Sirén says:

I’m here because of my father falling last Friday, resulting in massive head trauma and bleeding in the brain. He is still unconscious and intubated even though they took away his sedation earlier this week. Only time will tell how this pans out, but since he is 70 years old I do not have any fantasies about full recovery.

John Fletcher says:

12/31/88 went over a 4 to 7½ story cliff. Coma for 24 days. When I awoke couldn't do anything. Short-term memory was shot, long-term stayed intact so I could remember doing it. They told my wife that I was guaranteed 2 to 3 months inpatient and 2 to 3 years outpatient and didn't know if I would ever be productive in society again. Two weeks after waking I was let out on a day pass, 3 weeks a weekend pass and the 4th week discharged. 11 months to the day after TBI I was finished with outpatient therapy and back to work.
Life is normal for me.

Get Debbie a man! Is fornicating against the rules in Nebraska?

Big Dummy says:

Traumatic brain injury survivor here. It happened when I was 14. I was struck by a line drive while pitching softball during gym class. My skull was fractured and I had a blood clot between my brain and skull. When I arrived at the hospital, I had to have surgery done immediately to remove bleeding on my brain. Life has been rough. Now that I'm in my 40's, I feel like everything is getting worse and nobody understands. Thank you Mr. Hoffman for bringing light to this by creating this excellent film. Take care kind sir and I want to wish you all the best!

Ronald Donner says:

Does anyone know where to find the 4 part series of a US rehabilitation centre in the same style as this one?I remember one patient,a young man who was not doing well and was very angry.

22:14 Jesus Christ, Patti's head injury arised from an automobile accident, so the bus driver takes her piece of paper and reads it, while not keeping his eye on the road😧😳

HolyKnightGaming says:

This is beyond crippling I can only imagine the living nightmare their enduring. I could have been dead 💀. When I was very young i think like 5 maybe. I was trying to show my step dad I could be superman 🦸‍♂️ and smashed my head off a steel rod chair impaling me in the nose. I hardly remember it happening 😕 I don't believe I have ever fully recovered. This is hard to talk about. I'm really glad to be alive thank God.

Linda Mitchell-Fox says:

Lord forgive me, I would not choose this life if I was able to make that decision. I have now downloaded a living will and advanced health care plan that I’ll be filling out tomorrow and having it witnesses.

DO NOT SKIP THIS COMMENT IT CAN CHANGE YOUR LIFE. Please research ambien for brain damage. For some reason it can literally bring people out of a non verbal state or correct other issues. Doctors arent gonna know this, watch the vice documentary about it. You can get them back! Everyone needs to know this!

Edit- It only has the effect while its psychoactive, the effect wears off.

Mark Flatt says:

Now we save 90% of these folks…I was a medic for 30 years and ED/Trauma nurse…for…well never mind how many, enough…😁 anyway…I cannot say how many young people, kids to me, were devastated in car accidents…I probably have seen thousands…its such a heartbreaking tragedy…

George Wilkinson says:

My brain damage could be worse. I escaped total disaster. I was hit by a car that was traveling 60 mph while walking. I was told that was the speed of the car. Also I was told that upon impact I went up in the air about 15 feet. And landed on
My side. On the road. I don't remember anything about the accident. All I know is that I had to relearn how to walk. 2 months later. I can walk kinda like before. But I still feel wobbly. I'm lucky to have just feeling wobbly wrong with me. I escaped total mental disaster.

George Wilkinson says:

I am watching this on my phone from my room in a rehabilitation center. I got hit by a car. Walking I was told the guy was doing about 60 mph. I'm doing great. Just relearned how to walk. And balance. I was also told when I got hit. I went in the air about 15 feet. And landed on my head.
